Essex Angling Leisure are really pleased to be able to offer you some of the finest fishing in Ireland, based in the splendor of Farran House!

Farran House is a large, elegant 18th century, Italianate style, Irish manor house situated in the rolling hills of the Lee valley, overlooking the medieval castle and abbey of Kilcrea.

The house is spectacularly set in 12 acres of mature beech woodland and landscaped gardens. The owners, John & Patricia have carried out a mammoth restoration job and the result is a luxurious, charming manor house, full of character.

The elegant interior is full of surprises. Hanging with the old paintings and engravings there are exquisite modern photographic prints. There are interesting antique furnishings throughout the house, including a 1903 bechstein grand piano in the drawing room and a full size billiard table in the billiard room.

All four guestrooms have large bathrooms and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.

It is a perfect base for exploring counties Cork and Kerry. It is situated 9 miles from Blarney, 38 miles from Killarney and 10 miles from Cork city and airport.

THE GROUNDS

Farran house is situated on a southern facing slope of the Bride valley, over-looking the medieval castle and abbey of Kilcrea, both of which can be seen from the guest bedrooms.

Of the original Clarke estate of 5664 acres there are 12 remaining acres of gardens surrounding the house

At the turn of the last century the Clarke family owned Farran House, they spared no expense to create a paradise at their home. A stream was diverted to run through the beech woodland area, water was in turn piped from this stream to form a mini cascade through the rock gardenn another area there is a fountain and a network of paths through an ornamental garden.

There is also a large walled garden with a tea-house complete with its own fire-place.
The wooded area is a mixture of rare rhododendrons and magnificent beech and oak trees. In the 1930s it took an army of 8 gardeners to tend to all of this.

Today the gardens have matured and have a less formal atmosphere but they still remain spectacular
