We have got this down to an art now, with our most recent group taking eight different specimens 30-85kg's (only smalll ones!!!!) - in addition we lost two massive fish one which was caught on video next to the boat and estimated 140kg+.You can experience maybe 10 takes in one day, but you might only land two fish – such is the power of these creatures! It is difficult to put into words the shear adrenaline rush you get when your bait is picked up and the battle begins!!
Tackle - Anglers fishing are equipped with six strong 100-150lb class stand up boat rods coupled with big two speed multipliers loaded with 100lb briaded mainline. We use 10m lengths of fluorocarbon as shock leaders attached to 200lb+ wire traces or fluoro.9/0 Owner hooks complete the set up. Fishing for Giant freshwater stingray on a massive tidal river such as the Maeklong requires specialist guides and an experienced captain. When a Giant freshwater stingray is captured a high degree of skill and experience is needed to safely secure and release such a specimen without harming the anglers or creature. Three to four guides/anglers are required to successfully land such a potentially dangerous and large capture.
Fishing on the Ban Pakong River is from the bankside with baits placed at various spots with a small boat. On hooking a GFS the angler is required to use a large boat to do battle with these monster rays. Epic battles have been experienced on both rivers up to six hours in duration needing numerous anglers to take turns to land the GFS.
Accomodation at the Ban Pakong site is available at our 3* Hotel in Chachoengsao, in addition Chachoengsao is only forty minutes from Bangkok city centre making daily expeditions possible. In contrast our Maeklong River site is fished from a 30ft boat with six rods placed with the use of another smaller boat at various hot spots on the tidal river. Accomodation at the Maeklong is in the form of authentic riverside bungalows which are fully air conditioned and very comfortable. An on site restaurant serves tasty Thai food in addition to the many riverside restaurants that line the rivers banks. Western food 'KFC' etc is available at the nearby town.
